CENOTE XCANCHE



Semi open type cenote with freefall, it has a wooden staircase where you descend until reaching a wooden platform to access the water. The water varies between a blue or green hue depending on the season. The water mirror is 40 meters long and wide, with a maximum depth of 30 meters.

It is managed by the Board of Units of Cultural and Tourist Services of the State of Yucatan (CULTUR), the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and a Mayan cooperative who care for and maintain the quality of tourism services and the archeological zone itself, charging a small entrance fee in return.

It offers hosting services in cabins, restaurant, motorcycle taxi or mountain bike rental, zip lines and rappeling. It is a site with optimal conditions for swimming, bird watching and diving as long as adequate preparation is had. It is recommended to use lifejackets, avoid using sunblocks and not littering into and around the water body.

This cenote is located 192.5 km east of Merida city, taking the highway Mérida-Valladolid. From Valladolid, take the highway to Tizimin, 6km after Temozón turn right, then 4 km more until arriving to a crossroad which indicates the road to the archaeological site, go straight 1 km to reach the touristic center of Ek Balam; pay the entry fee and you will be pointed to the 1.5 km road that reaches the site.
