Cenote Papakal
Closed type cenote inside a grotto, its water mirror is 27 meters long by 29 meters wide, with a maximum depth of 31 meters.
It is distinguished because of its great cavern which is accessed by a side entrance on the north side and because it has large stalagmites which dive into the clear water. Good visibility for diving activities. There have been discoveries of paleontological vestiges and traces of charcoal that possibly served for a fire at the time the cave was dry, thousands of years ago.
It is recommended to find the local guide, carry lamps for avoiding accidents, the use of life jackets, avoid using sunblocks and to be very careful when descending the stairs.
This cenote is located 39 km from Merida city. On Mérida - Chetumal highway, take the detour to Acanceh, going through the town of Cuzamá to Chunkanán hacienda of the municipality of Cuzamá, from the town center head south for 2.5 km on fair condition white road.
