CENOTE CHACSINICHE

This is a semi open type cenote with a 16 meter free fall. It is one of the most visited given it is part of the cenote circuit of Cuzamá.

The water color is blue and its mirror is 20 meters long by 10 meters wide, with a maximum depth of 40 meters. The transparency of its waters makes immersion into the cavities easier making it possible to visualize formations that rise from the bottom and others hanging from the top of the dome.

It is managed by an ejido group who provides maintenance to the installations, charging a small entry fee in return. It is recommended to use life jackets, avoid using sunblocks and to be very careful when descending the stairs.

This cenote is located 57 km from Merida city. Get to the town of Cuzamá, head south to Chunkakán hacienda where transportation is taken on the town's tourist center. From there, 6 km southwest on truck (Narrow-gauge railway where a rustic platform is pulled by horses).
