El barrio de San Sebastián es uno de los más antiguos y de mayor tradición en Mérida; desde tiempos muy antiguos se asentó hacia el suroeste de Mérida un pueblito maya, que al tiempo de la colonización se le nombró San Sebastián. Hay quienes creen que por él pasó la tropa de Montejo cuando llegó a T'ho. En este tradicional barrio se encuentra la Ermita de Santa Isabel que data del siglo XVII; antiguamente fue llamada como la ermita de nuestra señora del buen viaje, posiblemente por la posición cerca del camino real de Campeche.
San Sebastian Neighborhood
The San Sebastian neighborhood is one of the oldest and most traditional in Merida. Since ancient times a small Maya village was settled southwest of Merida, which at the time of settlement was named San Sebastián. Some believe that it happened when Montejo’s troops reached T'ho. In this traditional neighborhood one can find the Shrine of Santa Isabel dating from the seventeenth century and was formerly called the shrine of our lady of good voyage, probably for the position by the royal highway of Campeche.
