La iglesia de San Juan fue construida sobre una capilla del siglo XVII, exactamente entre 1769 y 1770. El corredor, de influencia mudéjar, destaca dentro del conjunto que fue parte de un mesón público para los viajeros que existió detrás del templo, éste antecede a la sacristía y es quizá la última evidencia de la capilla original. El Arco de San Juan fue construido alrededor de 1690 para delimitar los límites de Mérida como parte de un posible proyecto para su fortificación, mismo que nunca se llevó a cabo. Este Arco es el de mayores dimensiones y se encuentra en la antigua salida al Camino Real a Campeche.
San Juan Neighborhood
The church of St. John (San Juan) was built on a XVII century chapel, right between 1769 and 1770. The corridor, with a Mudejar influence, stands within the set that was part of a public inn for travelers that was behind the temple. It precedes the vestry and is perhaps the last evidence of the original chapel. The Arch of San Juan was built around 1690 to delineate the limits of Merida as part of a possible project for fortification, which never took place. This arch is larger one and is found in the old exit to Royal Highway (Camino Real) to Campeche.
